Our Troop's philosophy is that Scouting is a "youth run" organization. Scouts are responsible for planning the yearly calendar, choosing monthly Troop themes and running weekly Troop meetings. Representatives from each Patrol are involved in the decision making process. The adult leaders provide advice and guidance only as needed.

The outdoor experience is an extremely important part of Scouting. Every effort is made to have at least one outdoor activity each month. Most are weekend campouts at a variety of locations. Others include long term camping at scout camps during the summer, at places such as trips to Sea Base in the Florida Keys, Ben Delatour Scout Ranch near Fort Collins, Camp Augustine in Grand Island, and Philmont in New Mexico. We are planning a Seabase trip to the Bahamas, a high adventure canoe trip to the boundary waters in Minnesota for older scouts, and summer camp in either Colorado or Wyoming for all scouts.

While we feel advancement is an important part of Scouting, we have no intention of being an "Eagle mill." Each Scout is certainly encouraged to advance, but more importantly, we feel the overall Scouting experience with opportunities for leadership, fun, service and camaraderie are more important. We hope this brief summary of Troop 139 has been helpful. Our Troop meets at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3315 11th Avenue, on most Mondays. Our meetings begin at 7:00 pm and usually run until 8:30 pm. Boys and parents are always welcome to visit.
